Larijani calls for expansion of Iran-Sri Lanka ties

Larijani made the remarks in a press conference with his visiting Sri Lankan counterpart Karu Jayasuriya.

Referring to his meeting with Jayasuriya, Larijani underlined that issues related to economic cooperation and negotiations at an international level were discussed.

Touching upon the two countries cordial relations, he stressed that ground is properly paved for activating private sectors of both sides.

Jayasuriya, for his part, voiced his country’s determination to pay off its debts to Iran, unpaid since the time of anti-Iran Western sanctions.

The Sri Lankan speaker said his country is eager to expand economic relations with Iran.

Highlighting the close cooperation between Colombo and Tehran within the framework of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), Jayasuriya invited his Iranian counterpart to pay a visit with a parliamentary delegation to the South Asian country.
