Naqavi Hosseini: Ground properly paved for expansion of ties among Persian Gulf littoral states

Naqavi Hosseini made the remarks in an interview with ICANA.

Congratulating the National Persian Gulf Day, the lawmaker underlined that Persian Gulf is considered as one of the most important waterway in the Middle East.

Describing Persian Gulf as one of the strategic region in the Middle East, he added since ancient times the waterway has been referred to by historians and ancient texts as "Persian".

He added the name of Persian Gulf is one of the documents that could not be changed.

The lawmaker reiterated that the Persian Gulf littoral states enjoy common interests and beliefs.

Iran designated April 30 as National Persian Gulf Day to emphasize the fact that the waterway has been referred to by historians and ancient texts as "Persian" since the Achaemenid Empire was established in what is now modern day Iran.

While historical documents illustrate that the waterway has always been referred to as the “Persian Gulf,” certain Arab states and their allies have recently mounted efforts to remove “Persian” from the name of the waterway.

National Persian Gulf Day also marks the anniversary of the dislodging of Portuguese military forces from the Strait of Hormuz in 1622, during the reign of Safavid king Shah Abbas I.
