Iranian lawmaker calls for boosting security at border areas

A member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Qasemi Jasemi made the remarks in an interview with ICANA.

He added the recent travel of Foreign Minister Mojammad-Javad Zarif to Pakistan and Afghanistan was mainly focused on boosting security of Iran’s eastern border regions.

The lawmaker said the domestic crisis has prompted Iran’s neighboring countries to do not pay due attention to boost their borders’ security.

As per the international rules, the MP said, every county should control its border areas and prevent the penetrate of terrorists and saboteurs to the neighboring countries, Iran in particular.

The lawmaker reiterated that in case of terrorists’ penetration to Iran from the neighboring countries, like what happened in recent ambush near the town of Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan, neighboring countries should be held accountable for their indifferent behavior.

On May 26, 10 Iranian border guards were killed and two others injured in an ambush near the town of Mirjaveh in the southeastern Iranian province of Sistan-and-Baluchestan.

The so-called Jaish ul-Adl terrorist group claimed responsibility for the attack, which was launched from the Pakistani soil. The assailants escaped into Pakistani territory immediately after the attack.
