Iranian MP calls for end of violence against Muslims in Myanmar

Tehran, Aug 30, ICANA – An Iranian lawmaker said the human rights violations against Rohingyas Muslims in Myanmar could be termed as crimes against humanity and carnage.

Talking to ICANA, Morteza Safari Natanzi a member of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission called for end of violence against Muslims in Myanmar.

The MP expressed his deep sorrow for the sad status of Rohingyas Muslims in Myanmar and called for Muslim countries' practical action to end the discriminatory and inhuman violence against Muslims.

He added that what is going on the against Rohingya Muslims is considered as an ethnic cleansing.

Prior to the 2015 Rohingya refugee crisis and the military crackdown in 2016 and 2017, the Rohingya population in Myanmar was around 1.1 to 1.3 million. They reside mainly in the northern Rakhine townships.

Many Rohingyas have fled to the neighboring states. More than 100,000 Rohingyas in Myanmar live in camps for internally displaced persons, not allowed by authorities to leave.
