Iran halts airspace to all flights to and from Iraqi Kurdistan

Tehran, Sep 29, ICANA – A senior Iranian lawmaker said Iran has halted its airspace to all flights to and from the semi-autonomous Kurdish region in Iraq at the request of the country's federal government.

Kamal Dehqani Firouzabadi, the vice-chairman of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Committee made the remarks in an interview with ICANA.

He said the semi-autonomous Kurdish region is part of Iraq.

Baghdad is legally in charge of Kurdish region and this area is not considered as a dependence region.

At the request of the central government of Iraq, the MP said all flights all flights to and from Iran to the Iraqi Kurdistan Region have been stopped.
