Iran, Slovenia Slam US Policy on ME

“All capacities and privileges in the two countries must be employed for the sake of expanding bilateral friendly ties in the interest of both nations,” Iran's Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani said in a meeting with a parliamentary delegation from Slovenia.

Larijani referred to the recent developments and uprisings against authoritarian rulers in Arab and North African nations and criticized what he called a new US policy in support of the out-of-favor leaders.

“At the present time the region is breathing a new air free of the US yoke and the US approach in region for supporting the dictators is moving on in a reactionary fashion,” he said.

The Iranian official downplayed Washington's efforts to direct the popular uprisings as futile, noting that the pro-democracy protests have entered a new arena with the lessons that the public has learned from the US conduct in Afghanistan and Iraq.

For his part, the head of Iran-Slovenia parliamentary friendship group Zmago Jelencic also criticized the United States and pointed out that every nation has the right to determine their style of living.

The American version of democracy is not the only kind of democracy in the world, he underlined.

The Slovenian parliamentarian blamed Washington's meddlesome approach toward the revolution in Egypt, saying the US cannot impose its will on other nations with a rich historical and cultural background.
