Senior MP Blasts PGCC for Attempts to Promote Iranophobia

"The PGCC is just seeking to damage Iran's image in the minds of the different nations through such measures," member of the parliament's National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Abdulhamid Baba-Ahmadi told FNA on Wednesday.

He added that the council wants to secure its own interests through spreading Iranophobia in the region and the world.

Baba-Ahmadi dismissed the claims raised by the PGCC against Tehran, and said Iran has announced on different occasions that it feels no animosity towards other countries, yet it will give a crushing response to any military action against the country.

After the PGCC leveled some accusations against Iran in a recent statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry voiced anger at the move and described the allegations as unfounded and baseless.

Foreign Ministry Spokesmen Ramin Mehman-Parast said that the PGCC's statement is aimed at diverting public opinion from the crises in some regional countries.

He refuted as baseless the repeated claims and accusations against Iran in the statement.

"While military forces of some countries are killing defenseless men and women, PGCC claims that Iran interferes in other countries' internal affairs," he said, referring to the statement issued by PGCC foreign ministers on April 17.

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi's letter to the UN Secretary General on the situation in Bahrain reveals Iran's concerns about military moves in that country, Mehman-Parast said.

The level of cooperation between Iran and some regional countries reveals the fact that the PGCC's statement does not manifest all its members' views, he said, noting that some of the members are misusing the name of the council for their own interests.

Iran has excellent ties with its Persian Gulf neighbors which favor mutual respect and good neighborly relations, he said.
