MP: West Fearful of Islamic Revolutions

“Western countries are fearful that another Islamic revolution emerges in the world as Islamic revolutions have become bane for their (the West's) interests,” member of Majlis Presiding Board Hossein Sobhani-Nia said Wednesday.

Therefore, the West has attempted to show that the revolutions do not have Islamic roots and are inspired by economic and social causes, he added.

Sobhani-Nia, however, reiterated that the movements and uprisings in the region were Islamic in origin like the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

He said that Muslim nations in the region have finally realized that they are capable of bringing down dictatorial regimes if they maintain their unity.

Anti-government demonstrations have been going on in the Middle East and North Africa over a wave of Islamic awakening in the region.

The Egyptians launched a revolution against the pro-Israeli regime in January, which eventually put an end to the 30-year-long rule of former President Hosni Mubarak.

Protests have also been held in the Yemeni capital, Sana'a, as well as the cities of Aden and Taizz, calling for the removal of President Ali Abdullah Saleh from power and the tackling of corruption and unemployment.

In Bahrain too, people have been holding anti-government protests since February 14, demanding constitutional reforms as well as an end to the al-Khalifa monarchy.
