Saudi-Wahhabi Onslaught on Bahrain

Press TV interviewed Saeed al-Shahabi of the Bahrain Freedom Movement regarding the ongoing violence and savage acts of the Saudis in Bahrain.

Q: There is this glaring point if you look at the events in Bahrain that are happening these days. Is this glaring point that looks at you about 30 medical staff that has gone missing? The question is why should a country's medical sector or health care system be brought in confrontation with pro-democracy campaigners?

Shahabi: It's an all out war against its own people. Nothing remains sacred, and nothing remains outside of the attacks of the aggressive regime. If these people are willing to attack, destroy and burn the book of God, the Holy Qur'an, and then what remains to be holy or outside the arena of attack? I think it's a sign of despair by the regime. It's also a sign of continuous and spiraling violence because I think the regime has been hardened by the support of the West and the United States.

So far the US has not said a single word against the regime despite what it has been committing against its own people. The medical staff is now behind bars. The teachers are behind bars. Citizens as young as 20 years of age are in torture chambers. They took religious senior scholars, senior citizens, women, teachers and artists. When you have this situation, medical staff will represent the lowest of the low.

Even in times of war, the medical care has always been secured, and protected from attacks of either warring parties. However, in Bahrain they are not. They are not protected and are open to attack. They have been as we know under military rule, and they have been put behind bars.

Q: Let me bring up a quote from Crown Prince Salman of Bahrain. He has said we did what we had to do in order to bring back peace and stability to the country. The actual direct quote is,”We took necessary action to preserve lives and the livelihood and interests of all people based on our commitment to “Islamic and Arab” values.” Where does that leave the destruction of mosques? Is the country a better place now?

Shahabi: Well I think if he believes this himself he is a fool. If he believes what he's saying it only proves what we are saying. This regime is not worth remaining and not fit to rule. How can you justify killing people? Where was the peace? This was the most peaceful revolution and uprising in the Arab world. There was not a single shot, not a single tire burnt, and people were only loyal to their own slogans. They did nothing wrong. At least 30 people have now been killed. The latest one was yesterday because of his wounds.

They have attacked mosques and destroyed the places of worship. You are now targeting a whole sector of society, which is more than 70 percent of the population. You are engaged in a sectarian cleaning war against the population. You have burnt the Qur'an. There is nothing that has remained outside your aggression. Now you are killing the people that you say you are there for peace and reform. What sort of reform is this?

If this is the reform and peace you're talking about, then you and your regime must go to Hell. This is absolute terror. The Independent newspaper in London put on its front page the title, “Bahrain's Secret Terror.” So everybody is now aware of what the al-Khalifa are engaged in.

It's a total war against the population. Human Rights Watch and Amnesty International a day before yesterday highlighted the extent of what is being unleashed against the Bahrainis. I think all in all what we see is a late awakening on the part of the international community. But it is better late than never.
