Larijani: US Playing Blame Game in Mideast

“Americans shift the blame for their own interference in the affairs of nations on others,” Larijani said in a meeting with clerical members of the parliament on Sunday.

“The events we are witnessing today in the sensitive Middle East region are very huge, and the regional movements are very deep,” said the parliamentarian.

He noted that these “great events” are accompanied by numerous enemy plots.

Larijani further refuted accusations by US President Barack Obama that Iran is interfering in Syria's domestic affairs.

He underlined that Iran has never invaded or deployed troops in another country, and only wants regional nations to enjoy their legitimate rights.

The Iranian Majlis speaker underscored that the people of the region merely want to take their fate into their own hands and govern their countries based on their votes.

“But superpowers do not want [to see] this happen,” he said.

“In Egypt, they tried to keep Hosni Mubarak in power, but the popular movement did not allow them to achieve their goals,” he said

Larijani highlighted that Iran is opposed to the invasion of other countries, adding that killing innocents will not help hegemonic powers fulfill their objectives.
