Mubarak's In-Laws Interrogation Delayed

Assistant Justice Minister for Illicit Gains Affairs Essem al-Gohary decided on Sunday to postpone questioning of Hadi Rasekh the wife of Mubarak's older son Alaa and Khadiga al-Gamal, the wife of younger son Gamal, local sources reported Monday.

Mubarak's daughters-in-law were expected to be questioned on Tuesday.

The decision was made to ensure the safety of Mubarak's relatives as Fathi Srour, the former head of parliament, and the family of Safwat al-Sherif, the secretary-general of Mubarak's ruling National Democratic Party, are scheduled to be interrogated on the same day.

The two women had once before been summoned for questioning about their husbands' properties in February after the attorney General Abdel Megid Mahmoud imposed a travel ban on Mubarak and his immediate family.

Mubarak and his family face charges of illegally acquiring wealth and their assets have been frozen.

The ousted president is also under detention for an investigation into the crackdown on protesters during 18 days of anti-regime rallies that toppled him on February 11th.

The commission investigating the violence against the protesters says 846 demonstrators were killed in the North African country.

Egypt's judicial officials say the former dictator could be executed if found guilty of ordering the shooting of anti-government protesters.
