MPs Plan to Question Ahmadinejad

On the sidelines of an open session of the Majlis, Mohammad Javad Abtahi who sits for the city of Khomeini Shahr (in the central province of Isfahan) in the Parliament spoke to Khabar Online on the implicit disagreements between top Iranian officials over the issue of the resignation of Iran's Minister of Intelligence Heydar Moslehi.

"Currently the issue of the president's interpellation is not at stake but Mr. Ali Mottahari [a key critic of the incumbent president] is to question Mr. Ahmadinejad and 52 lawmakers have signed his petition," he added.

On Wednesday Ahmadinejad refused to attend a Cabinet meeting for the second consecutive time this week. Some have interpreted the move as a sign of his discontent about the reinstatement of Moslehi ordered by the Leader of the Islamic revolution Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Earlier 216 lawmakers who comprise the majority of parliament members had asked Ahmadinejad to obey the orders given by the leader.

In the Islamic republic's system, the leader is authorized to have the final say on the appointment and resignation of four ministers including intelligence, foreign affairs, defense and interior minister.
