Bahrain Whisks Away Two Former MPs

Mattar Ibrahim Mattar and Jawad Fairooz were whisked away from their houses on Monday, Reuters reported.

The two had resigned from the parliament in February to protest Manama's deadly crackdown on opposition demonstrations.

Anti-government protesters have been holding peaceful demonstrations across Bahrain since mid-February, calling for an end to the Al Khalifa dynasty.

On March 14, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates deployed police and military forces in the kingdom upon Manama's request to help quell the nationwide protests.

Scores of people have been killed and hundreds wounded or tortured by Bahraini and Saudi troops.

Also on Monday, Saudi-backed Bahraini forces raided several schools across the country and detained a number of students.

Regime forces also arrested a wounded protester at the country's biggest hospital, Salmaniyah, in the capital.

Bahraini security forces have repeatedly attacked medical centers across the country, arresting those hospitalized with protest-related injuries as well as medical staff.

Physicians for Human Rights says doctors and nurses have been detained, tortured, or disappeared because they have "evidence of atrocities committed by the authorities, security forces, and riot police" in the crackdown on anti-government protesters.

According to some reports, the regime forces, backed up by Saudi troops, have also destroyed about 30 mosques.

On Monday, the government forces stormed a mosque in the A'ali district of Manama and fired tear gas to disperse worshipers.

The February 14th Youth Revolution Coalition -- an opposition group named after the day when the popular revolution was launched -- has called for mass demonstrations on Friday.
