IranAir CEO Rejects Fresh US Sanctions

"Iran's National Airline is a member of the International Air Transport Association and it is committed to the international aviation law," Parvaresh told IRIB on Saturday.

He added that the airline's operations are completely within the framework of the aviation agreements.

Parvaresh made the remarks after the United States imposed a new round of sanctions against Iran on Thursday.

Washington prohibited US entities from any transactions with Tidewater Middle East Company, which operates seven port facilities in Iran, and IranAir, alleging that the two major components of the Iranian transport infrastructure are being used to help the country develop nuclear weapons.

Iran, a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, says its nuclear program is purely civilian and directed at the peaceful application of the technology.

IranAir serves 35 international and 25 domestic destinations with a fleet of about 40 aircraft.

The airline's chairman also noted that the company is operating under the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) with respect to the safety of planes and flights.

ICAO is a UN body that seeks to enhance the sustainable development, safety and security of air flights among its member states.

Meanwhile, the Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines announced that it would take legal action against the US over the sanctions.
