Iran Slams EU Sanctions on IRGC Commanders

On Friday, the European Union imposed sanctions, including asset freezes and travel bans, against three Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRCG) commanders over allegations of aiding the Syrian government's crackdown on people.

“EU's unfounded claims in connecting the IRGC to the developments in Syria indicate the union's attempts at creating a negative atmosphere against Iran and distorting the reality,” Mehmanparast said on Sunday.

Mehmanparast slammed the West's dual approach and the double standards adopted by the EU, and stressed the necessity of reconsidering the EU's position on the massacre of civilians in Libya by NATO forces.

The Iranian officials also criticized EU indifference on the presence of foreign forces in Bahrain and the Manama government's inhumane crackdown on the people's peaceful demonstrations.

On June 23, Syria's Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallem firmly refuted reports that interference Iran and Hezbollah have provided “military support” to the Syrian government to quell unrest in the Arab country.

The Iranian officials include Commander of the Quds Force Qasim Soleimani, IRGC Commander Brigadier General Muhammad-Ali Jafari, and Head of the IRGC Intelligence Bureau Hossein Taeb.
