Iran, OIC Confer on Future Cooperation

TEHRAN, June 30 (ICANA) – Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu discussed ways to strengthen future cooperation between Tehran and the Muslim body.

The meeting between Salehi and Ihsanoglu was held on the sidelines of the meeting of the OIC's Council of Foreign Ministers on Wednesday.

Salehi also elaborated on the Islamic Republic of Iran's views and stances in different fields related to the OIC, specially about the different departments which are being set up in the OIC.

The OIC council meeting kicked off in the Kazakh capital city of Astana on Tuesday morning.

Representatives of a number of Arab, African and Asian countries in their opening speeches called for unity among the OIC member states in solving the problems plaguing the Islamic world and the Muslim communities.

According to Kazakhstan's Foreign Ministry, over 1,000 participants from 61 countries and over 70 international organizations have participated in the event.
