Larijani, heading a parliamentary delegation, is scheduled to hold meetings with top Azeri officials including President Ilham Aliyev and Parliament Speaker Oktay Asadov during his three-day visit.

The two sides will discuss “expansion of economic cooperation and the latest regional and global developments especially the Palestinian issue.”

The Iranian delegation will also attend Friday prayers in Baku.

Talking to reporters upon his arrival at Baku's Heydar Aliyev International Airport, Larijani said the two neighboring states enjoy deep historical ties.

In an interview with Azeri news agency Trend on Tuesday, Larijani had praised his country's relations with Azerbaijan ahead of a visit to Baku.

“Azerbaijan is a neighboring, Muslim and brotherly country to us. Iran and Azerbaijan share historical ties, based on deep roots," he said.
