Speaker's Advisor Dismisses Pressures on Lebanon as "Inefficient"

"Sanctions on Lebanon are ineffective, similar to Iran," Iranian Parliament Speaker's Advisor for International Affairs Hossein Sheikholeslam said on Monday.

He underlined the growing influence of the Hezbollah resistance group, and said that the group's power has caused the West to intensify pressures on Lebanon.

"Today, Hezbollah is acting more powerfully than any other intelligence systems in the world and the pressures exerted on the Lebanese government are the result of this very power of Hezbollah," Sheikholeslam reiterated, saying that the Islamic resistance group will become an uncontested force in the next few years.

Meantime, he dismissed the possibility of further pressures on the new Lebanese Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, and stated that Hezbollah is so powerful in Lebanon that no side or party is willing to confront the resistance group.

The remarks by the Iranian politician came days after the Special Tribunal for Lebanon indicted four members of the Lebanese movement over the murder of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Meantime, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Movement Seyed Hassan Nasrallah underlined Israel's involvement in the assassination of Hariri, and criticized the Tribunal for avoiding investigation into Israel's involvement in Hariri's assassination.
