US Talks Bid, Political Mischief: Iran MP

“The US adopted the carrot-and-stick approach toward Iran over the past 20 years,” said Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash, adding that Washington is pursuing such policies to “take advantage of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” IRIB reported

A member of Iran's Parliament (Majlis) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, Bighash further said, “Iran should not count on the United States because Washington's policy is not independent,” stressing that the policies of the US are under the influence of “the Zionist lobby.”

He added the Islamic Republic is ready to resume talks over its nuclear program “only through the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and not the US.”

The remarks came a day after US National Security Advisor Tom Donilon said that the United States' offer to hold talks with Iran is available.

“That path remains open to the Iranians to come to the table and deal with the nuclear issues,” Donilon said on Sunday.

The United States, Israel and some of their allies accuse Tehran of pursuing military objectives in its nuclear program.

Iran has repeatedly and vehemently rejected the unverified Western allegations that it is pursuing a military nuclear program, insisting that as a member of the IAEA and a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it has every right to engage in nuclear activities for all peaceful purposes.

Furthermore, the IAEA has been regularly conducting rigorous inspections of Iran's nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence of the country's diversion from a civilian nuclear program.
