SL Terms Regional Uprisings "Materialization of God's Promises"

Addressing participants in Tehran's 28th International Holy Quran Contests on Tuesday, the Leader stressed that the regional nations' uprisings are a "clear indication of the fact that God's promises mentioned in the Holy Quran are definitely materialized".

Ayatollah Khamenei pointed to the revolution in Egypt which toppled Hosni Mubarak despite the strong opposition shown by the US, the Zionists and their allies in the region, and stated that Egyptians' victory showed that "if God helps someone, no power can defeat him".

The Leader further called the Holy Quran as "the most important means and factor of unity, honor and dignity, and power for the Islamic Ummah (community), adding that lack of belief in Quranic concepts and divine promises "has practically prevented unity, honor and dignity, power and mightiness of the Islamic Ummah".

Since the beginning of 2011, the region has witnessed an unprecedentedly overwhelming wave of change.

Tunisia saw the overthrow of Zine El Abidine Ben Ali in a popular revolution in January, which was soon followed by a revolution which toppled Hosni Mubarak in Egypt in February.

Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Libya, Saudi Arabia and Yemen have since been the scene of protests against their totalitarian rulers, who have resorted to brutal crackdown on demonstrations to silence their critics.

Bahrain and Yemen, however, have experienced the deadliest clashes, while in Bahrain the military intervention of the Saudi-led forces from the neighboring Arab states has further fueled the crisis in the Persian Gulf kingdom.
