Iranian FM Calls for Development of Trade Ties with India

Salehi made the remarks in a meeting with Indian Deputy Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao in Tehran on Tuesday, adding that current level of trade between Iran and India is not proportionate with existing capacities.

He expressed hope that in a near future cooperation in the fields of trade, economy, industry, new technology and science would witness development and growth.

Referring to the role and stance of India as an important and affective country in the region and the world, Salehi said that the two countries have very good relations with plenty of commonalties in history and culture.

Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a meeting with Indian Minister of Health and Family Welfare Ghulam Nabi Azad had stressed the need for Tehran and New Delhi to boost cooperation to establish peace and stability in the region.

Establishment of stability and security is among joint viewpoints of Iran and India, Ahmadinejad said in March, adding that Iran believes that with participation of both countries, peace, stability and tranquility could be established in the region.
