US, Allies Should Leave the Region: President

President Ahmadinejad made the remarks Saturday in a meeting with the new ambassador of the United Arab Emirates to the Islamic Republic, Saif Mohammed Obaid al-Zaabi.

The president reiterated that Tehran and Abu Dhabi should further expand their interactions in all spheres, urging enhanced ties between the two Persian Gulf states.

He also praised the brotherly ties between the two nations, noting that minor disputes could not affect existing relations.

Moreover, the Iranian president called on the regional states to expand cooperation in efforts to defuse persisting enemy plots in the strategic region.

Al-Zaabi, for his part, said that Abu Dhabi is keen to strengthen its ties with Tehran and agreed with the need to enhance mutual relations in all fields.

The Emirati official also presented his credentials to President Ahmadinejad and expressed his desire to facilitate better ties between the Islamic Republic and the UAE during his tenure in Iran.

Al-Zaabi had earlier stated that ties with Iran are considered a priority in his country's foreign policy and that the UAE does not have much regard for “hostile remarks by some foreign parties.”
