US aims to hide woes with anti-Iran bid

The Americans are still grappling with the aftershocks of the Bush-era wars in the Middle East, Larijani said in a press briefing in the Swiss capital of Bern on Monday, IRNA reported.

They are seeking scenarios to cover up their failures in the region and the internal crisis in the US, he added.

Larijani also said that the US needs to deflect attention from the country's domestic woes ahead of the upcoming presidential elections in the US, adding that US officials create imaginary enemies to advance their own agenda.

Pointing to the latest US accusation against the Islamic Republic, the senior Iranian official noted that the allegation was “hollow” and emphasized that the US targets Iran because it is unhappy with the relations between major Muslim countries.

Iranhas categorically denied the accusation, saying the recent US plot allegation is a “ludicrous” claim based on the joint US-Israel posture against the Islamic Republic.

Last Tuesday, the US Justice Department accused Iran of involvement in a plot to assassinate Saudi Ambassador to Washington Adel Al-Jubeir with help from a suspected member of a Mexican drug cartel.
