“The will of the people has now been manifested through the election of Egypt’s Islamist (candidate), who, thanks to the Islamic Awakening, has come to power through the vote of the people for the first time. And, we, the representatives in the Majlis, congratulate the Egyptian nation on this victory,” part of the statement read.
The MPs also wrote, “It is hoped that Mohammed Morsi, the country’s new president, will help accomplish the purposes of Egyptian revolutionaries and freethinkers through reliance on God and the Muslim people of Egypt and that the country will once again gain its great status and (assume) its significant role in the Muslim world, particularly in supporting Palestine.”
