New Delhi, Feb 26, (ICANA) – Visiting Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Ali Larijani arrived in New Delhi from Mumbai on Tuesday.

Larijani is in India since February 24 on a five day official visit which is taking place upon an invitation from the Lok Sabha Speaker Meera Kumar.

While in New Delhi, the Iranian official will have separate meetings with Indian high-ranking officials including his Indian counterpart Meera Kumar and the country's prime minister, president, vice-president, foreign minister and national security advisor.

He will also visit the Delhi University to attend a seminar hosted by the Persian Department of the university in the memory of Ameer Hussain Abidi, former head of the Persian Department.

Earlier on Monday, Larijani had hectic schedule in Mumbai. He met with the Governor of Maharashtra, Chairman of the Legislative Council and also addressed a business meeting at the World Trade Centre.

During the parleys with the Indian officials in Mumbai, the Iranian official discussed bilateral, regional and international developments as well as the issues of mutual interests.

Larijani also pitched for the enhancement of trade ties with India in his address at the business meeting.

Iranian official noted that he purposely kicked off his India visit with the city, Mumbai, which is called the business capital of India, to show Iran’s keenness that it is interested in boosting trade ties with the country.

He hoped that the friendly business meeting would prepare grounds for better economic and industrial cooperation between the two friendly countries, Iran and India.
