Asghar Salimi made the remarks referring to recent Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s remarks  underlying that the continuation of the [P]GCC crisis will reveal the failure of this council.

Salimi reiterated that the [P]GCC was formed many years ago for various purposes, including tackling the revolutionary countries, but these policies have been failed.

The Iranian lawmaker said the [P]GCC has failed to meet the US' expectations, adding that these days there has been a great deal of division between the council member states and even several signs of collapse could be traced in the [P]GCC.

On Nov 6, Qatari Emir said the persistence of a dispute initiated by a Saudi-led quartet of Arab states with his country has weakened the [P]GCC and marks its “failure.”

In June 2017, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bahrain, and the United Arab Emirates severed their diplomatic ties with Qatar, accusing Doha of supporting terrorism but widely seen to have actually been angered by its independent foreign policy.

The four countries also imposed a land, sea, and air blockade on import-dependent Qatar.
